FAQs

  • Birth doulas can provide physical support during labor including massage, breath work, and helping to create a soothing environment. They provide emotional support by having a continuous presence during labor and birth, showing compassion and empathy. Birth doulas also provide information and resources, and can translate medical terminology into more commonly used terms, while helping you advocate for yourself every step of the way.

  • Birth doulas are trained to provide continuous one-on-one care, information, and physical and emotional support to birthing persons and their partners. A birth doula is not a medical professional, but rather someone to help support you in your birth journey.

  • Birth is unpredictable. Your journey is sacred and regardless of the pain management techniques you chose to use, a birth doula can be valuable prenatally and during those early stages of labor. All services offered are valuable with or without an epidural.

  • My practice understands, respects, and ensures that I am NOT there to replace the role of your partner. My role is to help you create the safe space you desire for your birth with whoever you want to be a part of it. My role can be as hands on or hands off as you desire. In our prenatal meetings, which can and should include your partner if you have one, we will discuss how to best create the environment you desire and make sure all roles are clearly defined.

  • Whenever you want! You can hire a doula when you first find out you are expecting, or right before you give birth. You will get the best value the earlier you hire as you have 24/7 access to me via text or email, and I can provide resources at any point in your pregnancy.
